Whether classical, jazz, psychedelic rock or Relâche’s own unique brand of “downtown” new music, piano/keyboard virtuoso Ron Stabinsky can do it all. This program will offer a unique and firsthand glimpse into the mind of this extraordinary musician in a series of solo piano free improvisations on the beautiful Steinway concert grand piano at one of our longtime venues, the Philadelphia Ethical Society.

Ron began his serious exploration of free improvisation in 2002, and it quickly became the setting which most excitingly piqued his curiosity and satisfied his itch to erase boundaries between musical genres. As is often the case with in-demand musicians like Ron, this period was followed by career demands that pulled him away from this passion. Despite his heavy demand elsewhere, the flame of free improvisation continued to burn brightly—and we’re thrilled that Ron has found the space to return to his commitment to improvisation, and even more ecstatic that he’ll be sharing it with our audience.

This performance will be an opportunity to explore the creative space that sometimes only opens after (or during) a prolonged period of artistic divergence. Ron will host a Q-and-A session immediately after the program.
